Virginia Baptist Homes

Dr. James Thomas Edwards, former pastor of Culpeper Baptist Church, had a dream more than 75 years ago of creating a home to care for aging adults, which would provide a nurturing environment and comprehensive care.

Dr. Edwards' dream was realized in 1945 when the Baptist General Association of Virginia voted to create a new ministry and open a home to care for seniors. Three years later, the first of four retirement communities opened its doors in Culpeper. Today, Virginia Baptist Homes operates four communities that welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds. In addition to The Chesapeake, continuing care retirement communities are located in Culpeper, Richmond, and Roanoke, Virginia.

While each Virginia Baptist Homes community has a unique setting and features, all communities share the steadfast mission of providing "Dignity in Living ™" and uphold a common value system that reflects the ideals of faith and family. The full values statement can be found at

Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation

The Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation has been entrusted with a very important mission:  to support the work and ministry of Virginia Baptist Homes by developing funds to help our seniors enjoy a loving, welcoming community, with quality care, security, and peace of mind through their lifetime.

We take our work seriously, but we can’t do it without the support of generous contributors who understand how important it is that our parents, grandparents, and friends can live with dignity no matter what their social, spiritual, and physical needs are as they age. You can make a difference by joining our family of contributors today.
