Referred to locally as “The Baptist Home,” the community quickly earned a reputation for outstanding care and accommodations that catered to the physical, emotional and social needs of older adults.
With a growing number of seniors expressing interest in the community, a multi-phased expansion plan was initiated in the early 1970’s and continued through the 1980’s. The expansion included adding more apartments, community amenities, and cottages as a residential option for seniors. At the same time, the community’s health center opened to provide seniors with a continuum of care on site.
In the late 1990’s, The Chesapeake embarked on a comprehensive expansion and redevelopment effort, totaling more than $85 million. This effort, which was completed in 2005, and a commitment to ongoing renovations and enhancements have kept The Chesapeake in like-new condition over time. As a result, seniors through the decades have enjoyed an exceptional retirement lifestyle where wellness and vivacity converge with comfort and happiness. Today, The Chesapeake proudly serves 400 residents.
