The Chesapeake’s pen pal program with Mt. Vernon Elementary School was recognized recently during a meeting of the York County School Board. Diane Bahr, a second grade teacher at Mt. Vernon, worked with Susan LaFrance, The Chesapeake’s activities director, to institute the program in 2014. Ms. Bahr wanted to find a way to make writing meaningful for her students and connect them with an outside audience in the process.
The result: Relationships among students and seniors that will be remembered for a lifetime!
