December 29: COVID-19 Update

The Chesapeake COVID-19 Update 12/29/20

While performing state-mandated baseline testing of residents and team members due to recent positive cases, one team member in assisted living (AL) tested positive for COVID-19. Five residents, two who exhibited symptoms and three who were asymptomatic, also tested positive.

Family members of these residents have been contacted. Contact tracing has been completed. Anyone who was identified as having close contact with the positive residents or team members has been notified directly.

The Virginia Department of Health has been notified of these positive tests and The Chesapeake team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread. All team members in the assisted living neighborhood were tested for COVID-19 and results are pending.

Visitation, communal dining and communal activities for all licensed areas (healthcare, assisted living and memory support) are temporarily suspended.

The Chesapeake’s leadership team urges residents to continue wearing masks, maintain a social distance of at least six feet and to practice good hand hygiene.

To help prevent the further spread of the virus, The Chesapeake strongly urges residents and family members to remain in their homes this holiday season.  Avoiding external gatherings further reduces the risk of contracting the virus.  Families and friends of residents are encouraged to use virtual visits (facetime/zoom) as a recommended alternative to in-person visits to help keep all residents and staff of The Chesapeake safe and healthy.
