December 5: COVID-19 Update

The Chesapeake COVID-19 Update 12/5/20

On December 4, the Chesapeake’s management team discovered that a culinary services team member who works in the healthcare center and a team member who works in salon services for independent living and assisted living both tested positive for COVID-19 during routine testing. Both team members are asymptomatic and are self-quarantining at home until the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) return to work standards are met.

Contact tracing revealed that both team members were likely exposed to COVID-19 outside of the community. The most recent testing, conducted December 1, found that no residents or other team members have tested positive. VDH has been notified of the positive test and The Chesapeake team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread.

All healthcare team members continue to be tested in accordance with the area’s positivity rate, per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The management team will report results if any additional positive cases are identified.

Visitation to the healthcare center is suspended until December 16, provided there are no new positive cases for residents.

The Chesapeake’s leadership team urges residents to continue wearing masks, keeping a social distance of at least six feet and practicing hand hygiene.
