October 22: COVID-19 Update

The Chesapeake COVID-19 Update 10/22/20

The Chesapeake’s management team is pleased to report that the assisted living area does not have any new positive residents or team members after last Friday’s testing.

The Chesapeake will conduct testing on team members and residents on October 23, as mandated by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Per the VDH regulation, if there are no positive cases during this week’s testing, assisted living residents will be able to able to resume communal dining, activities and movement between floors in the assisted living area using the thoughtful infection control practices that were in place prior to the most recent positive case.

The team is looking forward to the opportunity to start in-room visitations starting Friday, October 30, for both the assisted living and memory support areas. Residents and families of assisted living and memory support residents will receive additional written information regarding the new visitation process. The in-room visitation process includes guidelines which visitors must comply with and will be described in detail in an upcoming communication memo.

The Chesapeake’s team continues to work meticulously to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the community. The safety, security and health of all residents the top concern.

Mitigation actions taken by The Chesapeake’s team include:

  • Team members, residents, contractors and community visitors will continue to be screened before entry.
  • All direct caregiving team members have been fitted for N95 respirators. All team members are required to wear facial coverings.
  • Any team member who tests positive is required to stay home, elf-quarantine and will be able to return to work per the guidance of Virginia Department of Health.
  • Residents who test positive or as suspected positive, are self-quarantining in their rooms.
  • Ongoing infection control education for team members and residents has been provided throughout the pandemic.
