September 25: COVID-19 Update

The Chesapeake COVID-19 Update 9/25/20

The management team at The Chesapeake is working together to keep residents, families and team members safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.  As such, we are committed to transparency related to COVID-19 testing results.

A team member working within the licensed area of The Chesapeake tested positive for COVID-19 on September 24. The team member last worked a partial shift on September 22 and is recovering at home. Contact tracing is underway to determine if other team members and residents might have been exposed. Currently, no other team members or residents have been symptomatic. The Chesapeake management team reported the positive test result to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) per the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Chesapeake management team is closely monitoring all residents in the licensed areas to ensure that everyone is in good health. Everyone who enters the community is being screened daily, including all team members and vendors. Each team member has been educated regarding the process of self-reporting which includes travel history and symptoms of respiratory illness.

Mitigation actions taken by The Chesapeake’s team include:

  • Team members, residents, contractors and community visitors will continue to be screened before entry.
  • All direct caregiving team members (CNAs, nurses and therapists) have been fit tested for N95 masks. All team members are required to wear facial coverings. Team members who have interactions with residents are required to wear surgical masks.
  • Any LifeSpire team member who tests positive are required to stay home,
self-quarantine and will be able to return to work per the guidance of the CDC and VDH.
  • Residents who test positive or as suspected positive, are self-quarantining in their rooms.
  • Ongoing infection control education for staff and residents has been provided throughout the pandemic.
