October 9: COVID-19 Update

The Chesapeake COVID-19 Update 10/9/20

The Chesapeake’s management team has learned that a member of the home care team tested positive for COVID-19. This team member has been removed from the schedule and is recovering at home.

Contact tracing identified one team additional member who may have had close contact with positive team member. That person is self-quarantining at home. The positive team member has not worked or visited the community since September 23, and it is not believed that any residents or additional team members have been exposed.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has been notified of this positive test and The Chesapeake’s team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread. Upon idenficiation of this case of COVID-19,  all team members will be tested in accordance with the area’s positivity rate per a recent regulation for routine testing from the Department of Health & Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Chesapeake’s team continues to work meticulously to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the community. The safety, security and health of all residents is the foremost priority.

Mitigation actions taken by The Chesapeake’s team include:

  • Team members, residents, contractors and community visitors will continue to be screened before entry.
  • All direct caregiving team members have been fitted for N95 respirators. All team members are required to wear facial coverings.
  • Any team member who tests positive is required to stay home,
self-quarantine and will be able to return to work per the guidance of VDH.
  • Residents who test positive or as suspected positive, are self-quarantining in their rooms.
  • Ongoing infection control education for team members and residents has been provided throughout the pandemic.

The Chesapeake’s leadership team appreciates our community members and their families for patience and understanding during this most difficult time. Please reach out to the team if you have questions or concerns. Stay tuned to the COVID-19 Communications Hub for the latest updates.
