October 8: COVID-19 Update

Letter to Residents and Families about COVID-19 Update

Dear Residents and Families,

The Chesapeake’s management team learned on October7th that an independent living resident tested positive for COVID-19. This resident was asymptomatic and was identified as part of testing due to a possible exposure.   On October 8th, a second independent living resident tested positive.  Both individuals are currently under quarantine in their homes.

Contact tracing was conducted immediately.  Individuals who were in close contact with the first positive resident was contacted directly, resulting in nine residents being placed on quarantine as a precaution.  The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has been notified of the positive test results and The Chesapeake team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread.

All team members and residents involved have and will continue to be tested in accordance with the area’s positivity rate, per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and any positive cases will be reported as results are returned.

Residents are urged to continue social distancing, wearing masks and practicing proper hand hygiene regularly. The Chesapeake’s leadership team appreciates the extended Chesapeake family’s patience, flexibility and understanding during this time. Please reach out with questions or concerns.

With COVID vaccine boosters now being administered and over 90% of Team Members currently vaccinated (and 100% of all Team members vaccinated by October 30), and most importantly the Newport News COVID positivity rate on the decline; I see a return to normalcy and a great holiday season in front of us.

Kindest Regards,

David A. Loop
